Their chief is named Javier Ruben Guerro. Armando is the Comandante and is very committed. There are 7 men and 3 women who volunteer and they each have other jobs, so are therefore not on site; however they do pick up calls, leave their jobs and respond within “10 minutes” to a call. A special note: they ask $200 pesos for the scorpion anti-venum. These volunteers got the ambulance by going door to door, asking for funds and raised $7,000 pesos, enough to repair the ambulance, which was parked in La Huerta. It is equipped with basic supplies like gauze, bandages, masks, gloves, IV tubing, syringes, pain medication, a bed on wheels and two stretchers. They also have home-made blocks for immobilizing the patient. They generally respond to auto accidents and are trained to deal with these situations. They take people to the Hospital General de Cihuatlan.

What they don’t have is oxygen or a defibulator. They do not receive funds. They ask for donations when giving services and with the money they buy equipment and gasoline. A person or group interested in supporting them could buy equipment. Their needs include: a pickup truck, a tinaco, a pump for fires, fire extinguishers, oxygen tank ($6,000 Pesos) and mask, as well as the defibulator.

Centro de Salud

They have oxygen. Cost of service: donation. This is a small clinic that can address simple situations only, normal consultation, scorpion bites and simple wounds. They currently do not have gas to heat the water to sterilize their instruments. They are equipped to give IV medication to 2 or 3 people. They are nearly out of gauze and bandages. They rarely receive funds from the State of Jalisco. Maria Cruz is the nurse there of 22 years. The doctors stay one year and it is their final year of medical school. They are not yet licensed.
