Haven't heard of any damage to houses in that area|
of town. The arroyo ran high and fast for two days
but didn't seem to overflow it's banks anywhere. Maybe someone has actually driven by your house and can report from first-hand information. I wouldn't worry too much though - the major damage has been due to landslides on the hills and to our roads in every part
Today we're finally seeing the sun for the first time in days. There are still clouds around but it appears
the worst is over. Waves are still very high and don't seem to be letting up - one set after another keep rolling in. Someone was actually board-surfng yesterday in front of the area where the arroyo flows into the ocean, which is still pretty yucky with dirt and debris that washed into the water on Friday. I wouldn't want to be out there until the water turns blue again. Lots of rocks on the beach but no erosion - I've been told that removing the rocks (as has been done in Melaque) is the reason that erosion occurs. The rocks are supposedly Mother Nature's little mechanism to modulate the results of wave action, which helps to keep the sand from disappearing. If anyone knows more about that hypothesis I'd love to hear about it.
No new storms coming up the coast today - what a
relief! We all need a breather from bad weather and some time to clean things up.
