David scuse me!! West coast?? I am from Santa Fe and everything is westcoast to me...but you are from the other side of the Miss. river no? Well let me make it easier for you if you have never done this. Take I-10 to the last exit after Lordsburg and BEFORE you go to AZ. and go to Douglas, AZ where you can cross at Agua Prieta where the Immigration and Banjercito are the most cool!! They even fill out the paperwork for you...no having to run off to the copy center like at Nogales. Actually you could go on to Bisbee and stay at the antique airstream trailer park. or on to Huachuca or wherever but the crossing at Agua Prieta is the best that I have ever made and then the drive through the copper mining town of Cananea is really pretty and reminds me of the foothills west of Denver before the front range...you still end up in Santa Anna about 50minutes to an hour ahead of crossing at Nogales...only trick is getting out of Agua Prieta as highway 2 is not marked clearly but once you find it then everything is easy just stay to the right lane at the roundabout as you enter Cananea and veer off to the right and do not go into town or you will end up at the mine like I once did!!! This part's for Silver who won't go as far as Nogales. This was passed on to me from Bernardo...so for most of the details, you will have to ask him. I know that most travel from Lukeville, AZ crossing to Sonoyta, Mx. doesn't require anything as Puerto Penasco is a free zone. Bernardo told me that he could still put his Banjercito sticker anywhere he wanted because nobody cares at that station. I've gone to Rocky Point many times but since I was going for the weekend, I never thought much about immigration or my car!! So I can only assume that there is a point on the road (carretera#2) to Caborca where you will come across an immigration point and a Banjercito station and from Caborca you stay on #2 for about another 100+ km. and you are also at Santa Anna. You probably wouldn't want to cross at Lukeville on the weekends as this is the weekend resort area for Phoenix and Tucson daytrippers! Don |
