I invite you to participate in a tour I am leading from Feb 24 - March 3. We will visit 8 masters in pottery who live in the Tonala area. We will stay in the Casa del Retono in Tlaquepaque and later in the Hotel los Patios in Sayula. We will eat regional foods, enjoy the Ballet Folklorico de Guadalajara, visit the gigantic Tonala artisans market, and receive a guided tour of the Regional Museum of Ceramics, by a local master potter. Plus we will have the treat of spending one day in a hands-on workshop with Angel Santos Juarez, a master of brunido style pottery. We will visit the magnificent plazas of Guadalajara and the many shops of Tlaquepaque. Then we will leave the bustle of the city and take a drive through the mountains to Sayula and San Gabriel to visit yet more talented family artisans, including master knife maker Jose Ojeda, a 78 year old clay comal maker, a family mescal distillery, two brothers who make gorgeous huaraches ( the Mexican style sandal), and two women who are researching and re-birthing the work of Epigmanio Vargas, who disigned the tile work in the Cathedral of Guadalajara. The trip will last 8 days, and we will have a maximum of 10 participants. Believe me, it will be fabulous!
