Now that the Xmas Season has come to a close I am now opening my ceramics studio in Villa Obregon for classes in Raku Glazing, Ceramic Handbuilding, and Underglaze Painting on whiteware tiles, etc. I will also be offering a porcelain ceramic bead making workshop sometime in January and classes will be small so please let me know if you'ld like to be included! I've got some great new glazes this year. A gorgeous creamy white crackle and a couple of "rainbow" glazes that are incredible in their flashing. Just made an incredible crushed copper as well as a nicely textured purple! Currently I've got a great selection of pots to raku glaze, vases, urns, pitchers small to large, couple size of bowls, plates, tiles, cups w/stands, planters and much more. Raku Glazing Workshops are 250 pesos each with an additional 30 peso tasty lunch available. I'm very flexible with my classes in handbuilding in clay. But I do need advance notice and reservations. For the beginner I would suggest beginning with a nice platter or a set of cups.. slabs, pinched, coiled and extruded techniques will be focused upon. Of course, all materials will be provided. Because we wait for the clay to dry and then fire, glaze and refire these classes do require a few visits to my Villa Obregon studio. Price will be discussed along with project. In March I will also have a workshop in underglaze painting of whiteware tiles. Underglaze painting is very much like doing watercolors, either opaque or transparent. The finished ware is quite fine and glazed in an electric kiln to a high professional sheen. I have 12" square tiles (frames easily found in US and Canada) and really healthy ( think bowls!) oversized cappuccino cups with saucers and oval tiles as well. Other odds and ends like a couple of full size pitchers are also available. I've also got a couple of lamp bases which are about 16 inches high. This will be a week long project. Please call for cost. If you're interested in playing with some clay or raku glazing or glazing with underglazes please give me a call in Villa Obregon for information, reservations and directions at 35 5 69 36 or email me at mica2raku@yahoo.com and/or alnmich@prodigy.net.mx . I am located near the VObregon Plaza de Toros between calles Zapata and Juarez ( new malecon at the laguna) at Ocampo #9 behind a very large violet wall. Feliz Ano Nuevo! Michele in V.Obregon |
