This year, after the rainy season, we noticed our tiles bulging at the grout lines. By hand we could lift the tiles up. Our Maestro had used a white pegamento (glue) sold for interior walls to set the tiles and the glue had deteriorated in the sun, leaving space for water to collect. We haved hired a crew to discard every tile, remove all the old glue and replace with new glue and new tiles. We are using "piso sobre piso" (floor over floor) glue, because we know it has the most additive for strength on sticking. We are also going to guide the crew to dampen the tiles first, so they don't suck our the moisture. Our 1st maestro also did not "butter" the tiles nor set them with a rubber mallot, so we find our old glue had not even "stuck" on the tiles. Our maestro was perfect in every way, we just didn't know. More to come on our previous "hoped for" solution. |
