Good morning Lamans....as we start to say our good-byes to those of you who are leaving, travel safely, thought it a good time to again say thanks for all your help in donations and to those of you who have volunteered in the bookstore this year. And to those of you who have mentioned that you would like to join us next season...can't wait to have you there. We may have to extend our hours with all the new interest shown. That's easy to do.|
We have a new project to work on this summer that I thought I would share with you now. There is a small building out in the neighborhood that was built with funds from La Huerta to use as a social services activity center...short term is DEF. Although I don't know when it was built, it was used for various local activities such as sewing classes, AA meetings, senior citizens gatherings and of late was used for a children's care center. Unfortunately it has fallen to decay and needs a new roof and possibly other structural support. I am currently working with Natalia and Gustavo's wife, Revi, who is in charge of social services as the wife of the delegado, to see what can be done to bring this building back up to code so it can again assume it's original intent. We can buy materials locally for a discount, and would hope that there will be a group to volunteer their services in re-construction, or at a lesser wage, as this is to benefit the local community. This is a project close to my heart as I was fortunate to live across from this site and watch the activities and join in their fun. And to have a space again for all to participate in various activities would be delightful. Did I mention it has a nice patio and garden space?
So...besides the books...if anyone would like to contribute pesos to this project please feel free to contact us at the bookstore. We are in the beginning stages of organizing this project and would like your input. Thanks again, Stephanie
