Your Spanish is fine esmitty but this does appear to be a case of misunderstanding due to lack of language skills. No offense intended toward Mr. Campos but I wasn’t able to make any sense at all out of any his three posts in English they were completely undecipherable to me. However, once I read his post in Spanish I was able to figure it out. He is asking Helga to “abstenga de promover el uso de las armas” translation: stop promoting the use of firearms. Obviously Mr. Campos’ comprehension of written English is on the same level as his ability to write it because he has completely misunderstood what Helga in fact posted. In her post Helga was NOT promoting the use of firearms. Her actual post stated “Some of us have arms at home and God help us if the criminals get hold of these during a robbery.” Helga is clearly expressing concern about what could happen if these criminals who have been burglarizing homes in her community – apparently with impunity – find guns in homes they break into. She clearly believes that some people keep guns and she is concerned about the possibility of these guns falling into the hands of these criminals during the commission of one of their crimes. This is quite the opposite of encouraging the residents of La Manzanilla to take up arms against said criminals. I am sure we all hope that if people are indeed keeping either registered or unregistered firearms they are under lock and key somewhere very secure so that they can’t fall into the wrong hands. Just an example of how misunderstandings can arise when people are trying to understand something in a foreign language. |
