Here's an update from British Columbia - well, the southeast part anyway - we are burning up here!! There are many forest fires raging all around this area - one is not that far from here and has spread to dangerous size overnight last night. My son in law is cooking at the firefighting camp they have set up, and big water bombers arrived in the area today to help. The highway is closed only 20km north of us. A little farther up this long valley there is another big one near a major power line which prompted a complete shutdown of power to many communities up there. Then, on the other side of Nelson, there are a couple more huge fires raging out of comtrol and people are evacuated from their homes. It is very dry and hot in the whole area, but I hear on the coast they are getting rain. We hope some will make it over the mountains and get here soon. Hundreds of people are tubing down the river here which is a favorite place for everyone to spend their weekends. Ahhh....water. Unless you live in Bangladesh, where they are drowning and flooding and losing their homes! How is the ocean? I still have trouble going in the cold rivers here and miss the warmth if the ocean (everything is relative of course...burning up.... flooding..... freezing.... too hot......to cold....are we ever to be happy with what is?? I hope you are all very happy in La Manzanilla these days in spite of this human tendency for dissatisfaction. Linda |
