Dave is pretty correct in this, but hey most of the idea of folks living in Mexico fulltime is to escape from the USA. If you pretty much figure that social security, medicare is not going to help you, then why heip the Iraq war...hey now it's a war, I thought that it was just an "action" to remove Saddam! Well now aren't we supposed to just be helping the new gov't. get its act together? I went over: Publication 54 (2006), Tax Guide for U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens Abroad/ with a friend of mine (CPA) and their are some real benefits to those US citizens who have recently purchased/transferred land from the ejido. He seems to think that the ejido tax on "ocean view land" is real property tax and can be taken as a deduction on schedule A, 1040 and that is of course if you still pay taxes in the USA and have to report any income and crap like that...some of us still do!! This is only a deduction for the tax on land ownership and of course it will alert the IRS to the fact that you have property in Mexico...of course you don't own it...the ejido owns it until you get it "regularized"??? You have, however, paid a tax on it. |
