Downtown Melaque had 4 feet+ of water. Stores we all know and use lost almost everything. Families lost cars, clothes, bedding, appliances-everything. The water stayed for at least a day and a half and was filled with sewerage, petrol and mud. The water rose in minutes at 6am so there was no time to get possessions out or up out of harms way in time. Boats were used in the srees to find people strainded. The flood area as far as I have heard was from 2 or 3 blocks south of the jardin north to the river(free trailer park). There was rumor that lives were lost, but that is not true-thank god. Please donate what you can. They received very little help from the government. They did bring food and matresses. |
