There are good ways of protecting your email address so the spamers don't get the address in the first place. When people forward Jokes etc. they should put all of the email addresses in the BCC (blind carbon copy) of the header. That way you don't give everyone on the list everyone elses email address. I have received some forwarded jokes which have over 1,000 email addresses on them! That's valuable to those who are creating spam list. Another way to protect your email address is when posting on message boards (or any public place which requires an email address) put something in the email address which will throw the spam bots - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_bot - (programs which scour the Internet for addresses) off. For instance I would list my email address as lamanzanillanospam@prodigy.net.mx. Anyone wanting to write to me would realize that part of the address (nospam) needs to be removed for it to work. Just a couple of condoms (things which protect you from unwanted things) and the Internet can be a lot safer. D |
