Some good points Jarrod, thank you for your opinion. I think you would agree if there were no sellers there would be no buyers. The responsibility for growth belongs to everyone, not to mention that growth is the way this planet has operated since day one. I see virgin forest being sold, cleared, rented and planted with crops which consume a lot of water. The crop is sold with very little of the product going to our town. And if the farmer who rented the property does not live in La Manzanilla then very little of the profit from the crop stays in this area. Not everyone uses a lot of water, I get my water delivered by the water truck, less than one load every month or so. Some only use water part of the year. I am sure that a lot of water gets wasted due to faulty toilets and pipes. Many people are already conserving in various ways or learning to conserve. To say that people (I assume you mean ALL who visit or live part time in La Manzanilla and not just some) will run for their "other home" and leave the full time residents of La Manzanilla high and dry is something that is unlikely to occur. Water situations are popping up all over the world, La Manzanilla and Boca have a much better chance of making do with what we have than others. I feel confident that solutions will be found. Through technology, conservation, leadership, planning, education, and most important of all, cooperation and working together as a community, we will enjoy the beauty, peace and abundance that we have now for many many years to come. Adios for now, Daniel Hallas |
