CON ARTISTS LOOKING FOR A RENTAL: BEWARE

From the TomZap message board Currently they are in Barra but may be evicted (again) soon A young Texas couple with an 8-year-old child and a new baby have been hitting the Manzanillo, Melaque & Barra area looking for houses to rent. They will have many creative excuses of why they can't pay the rent once they are in the house. They are specifically looking for places that have telephones and internet, and have been known to charge up high phone bills calling Texas, and if the rental is air conditioned, high electric bills as well. Do not let them move in without a BIG deposit. Don't listen to any excuses--they have dozens, and so far, there are 4 homeowners and 4 rental agents who have fallen for their hard luck stories. If you are considering renting to these people, you should ask to see and copy their tourist visas (FM-T), and passports. Also ask for copies of their driver's license and car registration, and copies of their temporary importation permit on the gray SUV with Texas plates that they are driving. Don't be suprised if they cannot produce any of this documentation.
