That seems to be exactly what happened last night - take a look at this link from about midnight: http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/epac/loop-avn.html An hour or two before that, the satellite showed a large red blob to the north of L.M. and one of the very long arms of Genevieve coming up to meet it. Genevieve was elongated at that point but has since tightened up and slowed down a little. Still not a threat to the coast though. Most of our rain this past month has come in from the northeast at night - a pattern I've never seen before in L.M. We've gotten used to watching the southeast for potential thunderstorms and these have been coming in from the opposite direction. Our rain gauge showed a total of 1.24 inches this morning - most of which occurred in about 1 hour last night. At the height of the storm the streets around the plaza were flooded, which effectively closed the carnival down for the night. It was another very impressive show by mother nature. Boca Bob - hope your gauge was working. Need a Boca report. Daniel - I've pretty much given up on the Cuyutlan radar too. They're out of service more often than not and last night was a perfect example of how accurate it's been. The scary thing is that any airline flying into Manzanillo uses that same radar - let's hope they just have a problem putting the signal on-line and that pilots see something else! |
