Arizona and New Mexico in the last 10yrs. have drilled, I believe, 89,000 natural gas wells. In Sonora I think Mexico drilled less than 5000. So far they just don't have the infastructure. Also the burning gas that you fret about is not natural gas but rather Methane that they so far (and in the US) have no way to deal with it...so sad because I saw on PBS a dairy farm that heat the barns with the methane gas produced from the cow manure.
