Hello La Manzanilla, |
How are you all doing?
Great to hear from you all and see all the concern for the recycling program. We have been working in the background to make this program a success and soon will be making changes to the way it works.
Rest assured that I too have taken notice of all the plastic that is overflowing and have been hounding the garbage collectors to pick it up. They assure me that it will be picked up this Friday but then again they assured me that last Friday.
The current program works like this (or is meant to).
1. City garbage collectors collect plastic every two weeks and deposit outside Dave Collisonís old house.
2. Plastic purchasers come from Union de Tula once a month to purchase plastic.
3. Money from plastic given to Garbage collectors.
However we are changing to program to run in a slightly different fashion as the city garbage collectors have been less then reliable and as you have all noted there has been a build up of plastic and in some cases garbage.
The future program will include the following changes:
Recycling center built on land donated by the Ejido and with money donated by the delagdo and Tierralegre.
A plastic compacter bought with donations and tierralegre funds.
A private individual responsible for picking up plastic on a regular basis and compacting it.
30 more plastic containers distributed around the pueblo.
We will be looking for support and donations to make this happen and make program recycling a success in La Manzanilla.
If you want to take part please let me know! One thing that would be great is if we had volunteers help collect the full containers and take them to Dave's house. If you have a flat bed truck and want to help please let me know.
Also if anyone would be willing to help clean up the area around Dave's house let me know and I will join you there.
Have a nice day
