August weather

August is living up to it's reputation as a hot and
steamy summer month. The only reprieve is when it rains and, happily, we've had some rain already. Wednesday produced 1.42 inches - the night before only .05"- but even those amounts cool things off for a day or two. Wait! - I just checked the temperature and it's only 84F/28.9C with 68% humidity. Why does it seem so hot?? Could it be the overwhelming amount of greenery everywhere you look?

There are currently 4 systems in the Eastern Pacific, one of which is now a Hurricane - Hernan. All are currently moving due west and only one may turn to the north/northwest in the next day or so (Invest 96) and parallel the coast for awhile - the only weather on the horizon that could make things exciting in the short run. Cumulous clouds build up every afternoon which seem to promise at least a light sprinkle but, more often than not, that doesn't happen. The Wednesday morning rainstorm (which lasted most of the day) spared us a few of those early morning rocket blasts that bring you straight up out of bed wondering if the next revolution has started, but each morning since then has produced perfect weather for VERY loud rockets announcing the procession to the iglesia (they seem
a lot louder this year).

La Manzanilla is full of Mexican families this week, enjoying the last of their summer vacations. It's always fun to see how much they love "la playa" - no one knows how to have fun at the beach like a Mexican - swimming (not really - mostly standing in the water chest-deep, talking and laughing!), eating, playing volleyball or whatever - they just have a ball.

Boca - how much rain have you had this week?
