According to the International Fuel Tax Association, in New Mexico, a 17% fuel surcharge is collected by the distributer for every gallon sold. In California, it is 18%. In California, we pay 8.25% sales tax on top of that. Whether that is too little or too much could be debated endlessly. Whether that is a larger percentage than what Exxon-Mobil (and Chevron) claimed as profit last year (10% and 9%, respectively) seems pretty clear. But this is mundane stuff. Let's talk about how how the road paving is going, or whether Melaque's got any new good restaurants, or if anyone found a new source for baby chicks, or whatever. |
