In early seventies la manzanilla got hit by a hurricane, half of the town was destroyed no electricity or roads, my dad use to have a track so my older brothers got together with a bunch a neighbors and went to san patricio (melaque) the rip took more than wo days they where literally making a new pat, because the road was destroyed.
Our house was destroyed by it, so we took shelter on this apartments that where closed to el cerro so it wasn't getting hit directly, after the storm it was beautiful clear Sky's and quiet, no electricity, no jukebox playing load music si I was able to hear the birds and all the wonderful noises on the forest, we ate rice and fish, fruts.
The groceries store was empty money wasn't buying much on those days, it was more of the trade, Finlay after a week or two the government sent the so call "despensas" which is a half full bag with staple food, no much but the people took it more like moral support from the govermnt, after all people in la manzanilla don't like caned food, at lease on those days.
Any ways it was a horrible experience, but after the storm I sow everybody getting so closed to each other and caring for each other like family.
