We drove from Cihuatlan to Tequesquitlan, then back down thru El Almalon last Sunday and only saw two magpie jays. The thorn forest seems to be waiting for the 'snowbirds'. That rough road is a very good birding trek, but wait maybe 6 weeks. Another great trek and even tougher, is just south of Careyes to La Huerta...you might see two types of trogon, maybe a mot-mot, lots of both types of magpie jays, and many different hawks. The road is perhaps, 'occasional', and also very pretty...don't miss the orchids and bromeliads in the cuastacomate trees. Here at out place outside of Barra, the buntings and the warblers are showing up and as the meadow dries up, the seedeaters and very small blueblack grass quit start their chores. If you'd like to see some extrordinary photos from this area, go to the Barra Tomzap site and search 'Howard'...he has links on his messages to his flikr acct and others...stunning seems to fit. (tomzap.com and go to visitors comments for Barra) Today, off the Ranchito beach, we saw flying fish...do they count? Adios drat...doesn't look like any spellcheck here... |
