Inebriates and mouth-breathing knuckle draggers favor the use of "hisse'f" because their jaws are incapable of working themselves around the correct pronunciation of the reflexive pronoun "himself." Try it. The former is much easier to say than the latter. Let's drink to that! Research into arcane reference works to which only I have access indicates that the word "hisself" is a noun: hiss-elf. A hisself is a mean little preternatural creature that migrates to the North Pole every winter to find employment in Santa's Workshop. If you've ever assembled a bike or a toy late on Christmas Eve and the wheel fell off or a part was missing, you know a hisself packaged that item. The name is derived from the gleeful hiss it emits when it purposely passes on defective merchandise. Now can I go back to inspecting my drawers for calendars? |
