New recycling containers featuring a new chicken-wire design have been placed throughout town this last Friday by Tierralegre AC and volunteers. We will be placing several more this week as well so be on the lookout for one in your neighborhood.

The recycling program continues to struggle with finding a consistent buyer of plastic bottles and ensuring regular pick up from the containers around town, but we forge ahead even if we have to collect it ourselves. As well, the price we used to receive for the bottles, $1 peso/kilo., has been reduced to $.50 centavos due to the falling price of commodities in general. As always, the proceeds go to augment the salaries of our garbage collectors.

On another pertinent note, the Mexican government has passed a mandate to "force" municipalities to separate their garbage into organic, inorganic, and plastic, so La Manzanilla is way ahead of the game. Thank you to all of you who have helped with the program throughout the years, and to everyone who continues to recycle their plastic bottles!
