Rocio, our local Vet

The purpose of the post is to praise our local veterinarian, Rocio. We had a crisis with our dog, Mikey, on Monday and were frantic to find help for him. My first call was to Julie, who we all know is the saint to all animals here. She immediately hooked me up with Rocio, who came to our house with her medicine bag in hand. Rocio sat in our yard for two and a half hours with Mikey, administering medicine and monitoring him. She would not leave until she was comfortable that he would be ok. I honestly believe she saved his life. I do not think he could have survived another hour. She gave us her numbers and insisted we should call day or night. The good news is that we think Mikey will be ok, we have medicine coming from AK tomorrow with Jessica. Once he begins that, he should be fine.

The point of all this is to impress on everyone the importance of supporting this lady in our town. Rocio is amazingly compassionate, and very capable. I had not given much thought to the fact that we had a vet in town since all of Mikey’s check-ups, etc, are done in AK before we travel with him. But “you never know”, and having someone available in 5 minutes rather than traveling to Melaque with a sick,or injured, animal is a luxury we should not take for granted. She is depending on this town for her living, so if you have a need for a Vet, consider using her instead of making the trip to another vet. Being supportive of Cisco’s Amigos also benefits Rocio, as they help with all sorts of health issues in animals here.

Thank you Julie, and Rocio…..Mikey is smiling again!
