RECYCLING UPDATE--Volunteers Needed

I know there´s been some concern about the filling recycling bins. Believe me, I´ve been the most concerned and have been trying to pin down the Delegado for the last two weeks to get the bins emptied as well as locate someone to pick up the already accumulated plastics at the entrance to our fair village.

Do please keep in mind that Tierralegre does not officially offer the service of emptying the recycling bins, although we have done it several times in the past. This is a collaborative effort between Tierralegre and the Delegation of La Manzanilla, the latter who is responsible for the emptying of bins.

That being said, I finally was able to meet with the Delegado today and he assures me that the new temporary storage space will be cleared this Saturday, and that the bins will be emptied this coming Monday. As well, I also located someone from Melaque to come pick up the stored plastics at the entrance, and he and his kids showed up, albeit in a small pick up. I´ve now donated my trailer to him, so I hope to see that pile disappear in the next few days. Due to the current economic crisis, we are not receiving any remuneration for the plastics. We hope this is a temporary situation.

Tierralegre has offered to accompany the trash collectors on Monday the 23rd to help with emptying the bins, and we could use 2-3 volunteers to help if anyone is interested. We will provide gloves, but be prepared to get dirty. Be advised that some of the bins will be turned upside down after being emptied to avoid a trash pile-up in them during Semana Santa. We will meet at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Delegation. Any interested volunteers, please contact me by e-mail, or on my cell at 044-315-104-5442. ¡GRACIAS!
