Thank you, Larry, for fielding the rude, racist, ignorant and destructive comments up to this point. And thank you to those who continue to support the program, even if only verbally.

Larry is absolutely right: ON A TECHNICAL AND LEGAL LEVEL IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF OUR MUNICIPALITY TO EMPTY THE PLASTIC RECYCLING CONTAINERS. IN FACT, IT´S A NEW ENVIRONMENTAL STATE LAW IN JALISCO. So, in addition to your armchair digital ranting, do please field your complaints directly and in Spanish to our Delegado, our Ecology Councilor, La Huerta, or at the state level, to SEMADES (Secretary of the Environment for Sustainable Development--the agency that created the new law and is responsible for its enforcement).

Larry is also right that the Delegado insured us that the plastic would be picked up two weeks ago when I personally met with him and all the trash collectors. During this most recent meeting we went over all the systems that Tierralegre, the FACILITATOR of the recycling project, has put in place, which include connecting the Municipalilty directly with the buyer so that the program can run autonomously and independently of Tierralegre. I have since been in three times to remind him. The latest word from the Delegado is that the plastics will be picked up this Tuesday. Does that mean that it will happen on Tuesday...? Quizas, a lo mejor, quien sabe, bienvenido a México, cabrón!

Tierralegre, of which I am the President, is the nonprofit organization that set up the recycling program in 2005 to confront a major environmental problem. For those of you who are for just throwing the plastic bottles in with the rest of garbage, I highly suggest that you take a ten minute drive north of La Manzanilla to see where all YOUR garbage is disposed of and constantly burned. You might want to see with your own eyes the air you breathe daily.

Be assured that Tierralegre, its supporters and especially its volunteers, like Larry and Dean, have taken, and continue to take, an active part in confronting our insidious and growing garbage problem. And we do it because we believe that helping to insure the health of our community and environment is ALL OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY. For those of you who criticize so freely and caustically, I have a question for you: what are you doing to help?
