Why not think outside of the box - for a short term solution, there is a really good way to use the pop bottles. Get ones that still have the cap on. Melt or drill a small hole in the top, and then fill the bottle with water, and prop it upside down on a plant - do this overnight, so the plant is getting a slow steady watering. It seems to me that this is an efficient way to water plants; better than watering with a sprinkler or hose which allows a lot of the water to be wasted through evaporation. When I was doing this, the bottles would eventually collapse, and then need to be recycled. However, because they are collapsed, they take up less space in the bin, and at least visually, are less of a problem.
