in my experience, the fact that a doctor understands english is absolutely meaningless because most doctors are too important to actually listen to a patient. the most recent e.g.--the Manzanillo doctor (perfect english)who gave me scripts for emphysemia although i went in for arthritis, and who proudly showed me the computer list of his La Man patients-now i know more than i ever wanted to about six local people. in toronto, I have a good medic, a Tibetan doctor who speaks fractured english and will probably never sit the ontario medical board exams, but who operates, legally, outside the insurance system. i hope that La Doctora, who seems to care about people, not just symptoms, hangs in there. we need your kind of doctor.
