I know that this stuff is not good news. Things are esp. bad in the states of Sonora from Navajoa north and in Sinaloa south to Culiacan. Also very bad in Chihuahua...the woman who cleans our house said her mother is afraid to leave the house as pickups full of armed narcotraficantes are driving around Durango at all hours and the police do nothing.

The carjacking reports were in the Tucson and Albuquerque papers but I don't have a link to the articles. Seems that there were men posing as Federal Police who would stop cars and force occupants to get out with AK-47 pointed at you and then they would demand the keys and take the car with all possessions and leave the tourist stranded. Were not kidnappings.

I suggest checking with US embassy personnel in PV? Distrito Federal and US officials. Again much of this stuff happens so locally that I would trust the Police on the cuota for up-to-date news. Again much of what we hear is from the Mexico side of people we know who travel across the frontera several times a month. I will check local papers here...spanish/frontera news.

You might also ask Jane and see what comes across Mexico wire service. Mostly these guys are just petty small-time crooks wanna impress the higher ups,
