My last working day at the Manos Ayudando today...must admit it has been pretty quiet the past several weeks....but we have kept busy painting, airing and selling DVD's. Just wanted to bring you up to date on our projects....and share our year. This was the best yet thanks to all who donated and to those that bought books from us. Going into this year we thought requests for help would be greater given the economy...but this was not the case. We helped in several individual cases of illness, gave financial aid to a couple of families and again, helped with the Kinder school projects. And donated bricks to the Elemenataria sidewalk project. So our focus now is the scholarships to students wanting to go on to high school. After much discussion, we have partnered with LaCatalina Foundation and are working with Dean to launch another student. And..it seems that several families here are unable to financially pay the costs to have their children continue in Telesecondaria. So we are now looking into how to help in that area as well. There is a local woman here who is interested in giving sewing lessons. I have put in a request on the board for those driving down if at all possible to bring a used sewing machin, but one that is in working order. If you can committ to this, please let me know as soon as possible. We would like to get classes up and running by the end of Sept. Thank you in advance if you can help.
