crocs

My son is in Barra right now and had plans to visit bocca's beach for the day. We were down there in April and saw the crocs and didnt feel threatened at all. He has been warned by the locals in Barra not to go to Bocca b/c of the crocs and it is dangerous. Hes not sure why he was told this. Is there a season that is more dangerous then the others? We know to keep our distance. Any ideas about the danger? Thanks
