Arden in Riberas del Pilar (just west of Chapala and just east of San Antonio Tlayacapan and Mirasol on the carretera along Lake Chapala) has an extensive collection of mainly Indonesian and asian rattan furniture. Their prices are highly competitive. We just bought an Indonesian-made teak table for six and teak chairs there for 1/3 the price quoted by Caoba in Melaque (and we couldn't sample their chairs, since everything was in a catalog). The set we bought was designed by two Belgians who monitor production on site. It is beautiful. Arden has almost sold out the teak outdoor furniture, but just took in a large collection of rattan, both natural (two styles) and synthetic. They are nice people, he Australian I think and she French-ish(?), so choose your language. It is a big place, warehouse style, no boutique. To drive there from here, take the Colima cuota to Guadalajara. Pay the final (third) toll and stay to the right. Take the first right toward Juilqipan (sp? who knows where this place even is already) but really toward Jocotepec and Ajijic. Watch carefully, this turn is easy to miss. Be sure you are in the right lane or a truck will block your view. It is very soon after the toll. In Jocotepec follow the signs to Chapala. Through Ajijic, then La Floresta past Walmart to San Antonio, then Mirasol, then Riberas. They are on the left across from the Animal Shelter and the Animal Clinic. It is a 4 1/2 hour drive of about 240 miles from La Manz. Arden Casa de Muebles, Tel (376) 765-3472 Higalgo 81, Riberas del Pilar (Googled it).
