Have rented both from Thrifty and Budget. It will cost a minimum of THREE times what the on-line total quote is for daily rate. You must get an online reservation. Make sure you ask for power steering, air, automatic...every thing you need. Had better luck in general with thrifty. Budget, it took 3 days and about 12 wasted hours to swap out a junker for a decent car. The replacement car was great, but I was lucky I had any hair left..I was sooooo frustrated. (Definitely a different culture down there. Tomorrow is not the next day!) There is a place on the bulletin board about a rental car company in Malaque and another in Manzanillo that sound like what the people in the know use. Also request rides from the wonderful people that read the LM board. Have never used taxis, but lots of folks do. I like to see all there is to see in and around LM but I have always felt "ripped off" about the total cost of the car. There is so much to see around LM. Love the people and need to relax more, but it will probably take a few more visits or something to chill me out to LM standards. Enjoy your trip...oh and the crocs are real - keep your distance!
