If you are coming from the west Douglas is no short cut on I-10 and it would be a much longer ride to Hermosillo, but is it scenic Don? We're always looking for a change of scenery. How many hours is to Hermosillo from Douglas?
After 23 trips driving across the border ( every year since 1998) I guess we have gotten so used to the process that we don't see the problems at Nogales. We always take the "truck" route arriving before 8am and have never had a situation where we thought we were going to be hassled. At the smaller crossing at Lukeville we always had the feeling that someone was going to hit us up (which they did) for a propina so we gave up that crossing years ago.
Good luck to all that are driving down. Just don't stop in Culiacan unless you have to and then stay at the Cabanas Del Rey which is a Notell Motel south of town on the old cuota. It's been a long while but it was nice if you get stuck around Culiacan.
