Dengue and garbage in La Manz

While doing some reading about the increase in dengue in Mexico and worldwide, I came across lots of references to a possible cause: the yearly increase in the use and disposal of plastic and styrofoam packing containers for foods.

A recent study in Paraguay found their outbreak could be traced to trash that was not being disposed of quickly or properly.

Plastic bottles and food containers can harbor small amounts of stagnant water that will not evaporate, and then supports the laying of mosquito eggs. (I hope the federal "mosquito inspectors" that come around La Manz know this!)

A good reason for everyone to pick up trash whenever you spot it!
