New Year's Eve in La Manz

This December marks our fourth year of spending December 1 to 15th or 17th in La Manzanilla. Now we live here. But we've never spent Christmas nor New Year's here. We have friends from the Napa Valley who will be spending Dec. 16 to Jan. 6 in a rental in Ajijic. They have proposed to come stay with us here, arriving on New Year's Eve. What goes on in town on this evening? Does everyone quietly go to bed at 12:01? Is it as nuts as I suspect? Should we try to get them to avoid this experience or to embrace it? Or maybe we should go to Ajijic to stay with them? Advice would be appreciated.
