Thanks for all the suggestions about the shade fabric. I went to Construrama in Melaque where they have pieces of "Malla de sombra" which they sell in pre-made sizes. The one I got was 3 meters X 3.6 meters, all sewn around the edges with steel grommets, like a tarp. It was 470 pesos.
