I agree with getting pesos from your bank before you come. You get a good exchange rate, but more importantly, you can order small denomination bill. We bring down 20's, 50's and 100's which are hard to get from the bank and much appreciated by the merchants.
It is best to order a given amonunt is pesos which means you don't get coins in order to balance out an order made in US or Canadian dollars.
Also, remember that right as you start down Snuff Street in Chuiatlan (sp), there is a Banamex with an ATM so you can get money on the way from the airport without going into M.
