There has always been dengue in our coastal area however, this year and this particular season there is an world wide dengue epidemic. Your county should be spraying. The new President for La Huerta is Dr. Carlos Ramirez who will be coming into adminitration as of Jan. 1 2010-2012 I understand he is very aware of the problem in La Manzanilla and will begin spraying the streets as soon as he possible can. In Melaque our streets are sprayed and still we have a problem. Spraying does help, however using mosquito repellent on yourself helps even more, use it twice a day, morning and night and if you go into the water use it again when you come out, mosquitos will keep away from you. Dengue mosquitos breed in stagnant clean water, and in areas where there is a lot of debri. Only the female mosquito can transmit illness. Carlos Ramirez has a web page that you can access to get in touch with him:www.unidosporlahuerta.com Get in touch with him or with his wife Mildred who will be very involved in health issues. I live in Melaque next to The Laguna Del Tule and so far I have never had dengue but I do use repellent. Although you should be aware of the illness you should not panick.
