Enough Dengue already!

Although I know the dengue is extremely important to acknowledge, this is not an epidemic of small pox that we are encountering. According to medicinenet.com, dengue is a virus, which is very similar to the flu but with a longer duration (up to 2 weeks). It is not contagious...you only have to be bitten by 'THE' mosquito that carries the virus. You won't catch it by hugging a friend or kissing your loved one. (direct quote: "The virus is not contagious and cannot be spread directly from person to person. There must be a person-to-mosquito-to-another-person pathway.") God forbid, nobody wants to be stricken with dengue, or the flu, or even a broken arm, whether you live here or come to vacation. So PLEASE...lets not continue to blow this up bigger than it really is.....this town has already been hit hard enough this past year...starting with the economic downturn, then the H1N1 virus scare last spring, the robbery in November....now this. Those of you that have hesitations to come to LM, do what your heart tells you....do not let what is written on the message board affect your decision....it can only be made by you. I am going to quote what I told my neighbor in a recent email...... "Personally, I think that the decision to come down is ultimately what deep down makes you feel comfortable...no one here in LM can say what will or what will not happen to you once you get here...but just like everything else in life.....s--t happens. You can ask yourselves......'what if I do get dengue' but what if you don't get dengue? In almost every circumstance like this, it's always.....what if....what if....what if. As my grandmother used to say......"shoulda, woulda, coulda".......and only you know the right choice at this point. And regardless, whatever decision you make, it will be the right one for you. All I can tell you is that we are glad we are here.....right now there is no where else we would rather be.....dengue or no dengue.....we are in our home, which is awesome to even fathom in the first place.........and LM is beautiful right now...water is warm....nights are cool.....hills are green!" .....seriously folks........what more can you possibly ask for??? Except for the dengue, heaven couldn't get any closer!!!
