In Melaque at the liquor store on the north side of the jardin or at the one around the corner:
Santana Malbec (@$70), stay away from their Shiraz
L.A. Cetto (@$80) Petit Sirah or Zinfandel, stay away from their Cab

There is always the possibility that you will buy an oxidized red around here, especially during the rainy season (thank god we're not in that right now!). Liquor store owners buy small lots of no more than a few cases of most wines (other than Vina Maipo) and stock them upright. They can spend several months upright in the heat before they are sold. It seems to me, too, that California wines of any character seldom survive the brutally hot shipment by truck. I'm told that the trucks often have to spend a couple to a few days on the border in customs with direct sunlight beating down on them. We have a couple of bottles of $300+ peso Mondavi Cabernet cooking wines to attest to this. Buena suerte!
