The failsafe way to room with a dog or dogs is to prepare for the night, then check into the nearest no-tell motel. No questions asked. No human contact other than voices. The rooms are typically around 200 to 300 pesos per night, and they are really seriously clean. (Any hint of "unclean," and they know that they will lose return business.) The price will go up somewhat as one drives north, but not much. There's always AC and TV, though the TV may be set when you check in on a porno channel. Your car and possessions are locked into your own private garage, which is the only entrance to your room. You can open the garage and take the dog on a walk within the compound if needed. Often, the lighting in the room is far superior to a normal motel or even to an expensive hotel, since they are going for romance and looking for return customers. They usually have room service food and drink (don't expect much). Comfortable king-sized beds...several dogs and a wife fit comfortably for me. Sound proofed, so that the ecstatic moans of cookie-eating dogs don't bother illicit lovers.
Fifty to 100 pesos more will get you a room with a spa. We think it's worth it. These places are located just outside of every substantial town in Mexico. You never need a reservation.
