They are here around this time of year. I don't know about Summer. The sightings and encounters I have had were mostly of pairs; a calf playing and an adult feeding. I assume the adult is a female but I can't be sure; my encounters weren't THAT close.

My understanding is that the humpbacks (which these whales certainly are) come from New Zealand and winter in Hawaii but recently Mexican/Central Am populations are increasing.

On the North Coast of California we watch the Grey Whales traveling from their feeding grounds in Alaska to the calving in the Sea of Cortez.
