Almost all food products may be purchased in La Manzanilla. Prices are slightly higher than in Melaque, but most things can be purchased for less than prices in the U.S. I prefer to buy in LM because I don't have to leave the village and like the idea of supporting local families who run the stores here. The stores don't occupy large areas, and tend to pack things in. It took me a while to figure out all the stuff that is packed into my nearest store, Fanny's Aborrotes (across from the casino). For instance, flour is usually in a bag near the back of the store. Now I ask before I assume a store does not have something that I can't see. Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean they don't have it. The vegetable and fruit store near the jardin is very good, and receives shipments on Friday night, and also Wed. morning during winter months (when gringos are in town and demand increases). Hawaii's, in Melaque, carries more food imports that gringos crave, especially during winter months. I rarely shop there, and only buy that which is not available elsewhere, because the prices are higher. |
