We try to bring most of the pesos that we need from a bank in the US, although we usually take the bus to Melaque for the Wednesday market and a trip to the ATM to top off our funds if needed.

Some people have expressed concern about carrying so much cash. Although things can change, we aren't overly concerned.

As an example of the character of the LM community, my wife dropped her wallet (our first night before we divvy things up) at Jolanda's with ~14,000 pesos, it was found the next morning and returned to her with everything still inside, thanks to help from Leon, Yolanda, their employees and this message board.
