To be clear -- nothing in my post posited that hispanics would be stopped for no reason. The clarification made by the Arizona legislature lessened this risk.

The question is what happens next. OK now the police have a driver's license. Now what? The fear at this point is that a cop (and there are always a few) will say, "I thought the license was fake; or, I didn't believe he lived where the license said he/she lived or..."

And, then the question is will whites be treated in the same way. Or, will the only follow on questions be to hispanics.

We have had anti-discrimination laws for years, but that doesn't mean that they are always enforced. While unequal application of the law is perhaps not as common as it once was, the number of complaints filed by hispanics has increased substantially.

Laws like this just provide opportunities for abuse.
