Have you considered that "maybe" the victims in the surburban were associated with drugs somehow? They were traveling on the road that runs parrell with the Texas border, that's not (I don't think) a normal route for expats or tourists.
I agree that it is better to stop than to try and out run persons with artillary!!! Borderlandbeat.com published a story about 3 teenagers who were shot by the army/police because they decided to run instead of stop when the officers tried to pull them over.

This world has gone crazy.....everywhere. My husband and I hope to drive down in July and will be staying for several months this year. I pray it doesn't get any worse..I know things are bad in the US but at least we know what areas to stay away from. These road checks are just crazy.
I agree with Mokita, history in Mexico repeats itself. The people of Mexico have suffered repression in cycles for centuries.
