Hello all. Arleen was talking with the new president of the Lake Chapala Society today. He and his wife had just returned from California. They were a bit worried about the travel scene, so they left Ajijic going NoB, drove to Matzatlan and took the ferry to Baja. Straight shot up to a Tijuana crossing. They returned the same way. They loved the new sights and the feeling that nothing was going to happen. (Yes, of course, anything can happen anywhere, but there have been no reports of carjackings in Baja...yet.) We all know that the odds of having a problem following the regular routes are still low. We also know that it has happened to people who are our neighbors and that the incidence is 100% if it happens to you. So this is just a new idea for those who are going that direction, may want to see some new places and would prefer to avoid the "zone of concern." We're driving to Georgia this August. No ferries to Georgia but we won't use the Columbia Bridge this time. Clouds and rain on Lake Chapala. High temps are under 76 F. We felt cold when we got here. Lots of zancudos, but otherwise pretty nice. ¡Qué les vayan bien!
