Time is Ticking Away…. Help us finish the bathrooms at our Educational Center!!! La Catalina Educational Foundation is proud to have finished another successful academic year of programs at the Educational Center and celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of the children with an Open House last week. Over thirty children and fourteen proud parents attended! Now children are counting down the days until the 3rd annual summer camp program starts, asking us daily “cuando va a empezar el programa del verano?” The summer program is 3 weeks long, held for 3 hours a day, where kids ages 6 thru 12 engage in lively and engaging day camp activities. This year the themes will focus on learning about the environment, science and animal life, through the mediums of art, cooperative games and activities and some daily English instruction. LCEF has been working hard with fundraising for the bathrooms over the last two years, and raised approx. 81,000 pesos for the construction of the bathrooms, through the auctions and donations made through individuals. Every peso or dollar was put towards lots of bricks, cement and hard labor and we now have the finished structure of the bathrooms (foundations, floors, walls, paint and a palapa roof). We still need an estimated 30,000 pesos ($2,500 US) to make the bathrooms usable, which includes the most essential accessories and furnishings (such as 1 of 3 toilets, 1 of 2 doors, windows, and basic fixtures). THE TIME IS TICKING AWAY as 25 local kids will be starting the summer program on Monday, July 19th! Without having working bathrooms at our facility, teachers will have to take valuable time away from teaching the kids to walk the children to public bathrooms a few blocks away. We need the help of those who care about the kids of La Manzanilla and our special community to help us complete this project that we are so close to finishing. With just 50 people donating $50 US or 100 people donating $25 US, we can raise the required amount to make the bathrooms usable!
