When I was in Puerto Vallarta last year at one of the resorts on the marina, they did not provide bottled water. I called the desk and ask for some to be delivered and they said all their water was from their desalinization system and the tap was safe to drink. I was leery of the water but drank it and did not have any ill effects. I have since found the new resorts in Mexico such as PV and Mazatlan have these systems.

As for the distance between aquifers and drainage between them, I have absolutely no knowledge but I cannot believe places located on sandy soil and within 20 miles of each other would not be effective by what is happening to any location within the area. I have heard the water in Rebalsito is very bad because of the salt, and much worse than here before the rains start.
